Ayurveda and weight loss
The classical Ayurvedic text Charaka Samhita states that a body overloaded with excess weight is the most susceptible to illness. Excess fat deposits exacerbate the heart, kidneys and liver, burden joints and can cause diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis and gout. Obesity also increases the risk of cardiac arrest.
Although it sometimes seems like loosing weight is an impossible task, the Ayurvedic approach to treating obesity is very simple. Ayurveda believes that obesity is linked not only to the increased food intake (calories), but also to the wrong approach to the eating process itself.
The Ayurvedic approach to health requires the food to be prepared and eaten with awareness. Food is prepared in mindfulness and with a lot of love, as this increases its vitality and it is consumed in peace, without modern distractions. Ayurveda points out that for a better digestion, it is important to chew the food thoroughly before swallowing.
Also, it is not recommended to eat before the previous meal has thoroughly digested (4-5 hours) and it is not recommended to drink cold drinks while eating, as they reduce digestive fire and make digestion difficult.
Furthermore, one should not eat unless he is hungry, and the best time for the main meal is the period between 12 and 1 AM, during the reign of pitta energy which governs digestion. During the meal the stomach should be filled out following this scheme: ½ solid food; ¼ hot or lukewarm liquid and the rest of the space should be left for digestive processes – so, no overeating.
New Earth weight loss
New Earth Ayurveda Health Center offers 2 weight loss programs. For users who need to loose a few extra pounds we have prepared a 10-day Lekhana package, a combination of treatments that will speed up your metabolism, reduce fat deposits, and naturally tighten your body.
To users whose excess weight is the result of metabolic disbalance, we recommend a comprehensive Panchakarma process, which will restore the balance of metabolic functions.
Panchakarma starts with the pulse diagnosis, when the doctor proscribes a therapeutic plan and recommends Ayurvedic dietary supplements that will help restore metabolic balance. During the diagnosis you will also receive a three-month diet plan as well as recommendations for yoga and breathing exercises (pranayama).
During Panchakarma you will spend most of the day at our Center, where you will eat healthy meals that support the restorative effects of Panchakarma and you will also attend our Ayurvedic nutrition workshop where you will be taught how to prepare healthy, balanced and rejuvenating Ayurvedic meals.
